For the second time in the 2017-18 season presented by Community First Credit Union, the South Carolina Stingrays top the Jacksonville Icemen. The Stingrays were able to propel past the Icemen in the third period to snag a 3-1 win at home.
Sunday's matinee mirrored the last time these two teams squared off in Jacksonville. In another defensive battle, shots were limited and goals were hard to come by. Once again, the Stingrays were able to find scoring from one player in particular as Nick Johnson led the team to its fifth win of the season.
After a scoreless first period, Nick Johnson was able to put the Stingrays on the board first with a power play goal, his third goal of the season. However, the Icemen would quickly respond. Just 42 seconds later, defenseman Christopher Dienes continued his impressive road trip with a goal, his second on the season. Alexandre Goulet recorded the primary assist, extending his point streak to five games and Emerson Clark picked up the secondary assist, his third-straight game with at least one point.
The Icemen hit the ice for the third period with the game tied. Nearly halfway through the frame, Nick Johnson would find the back of the net again to put the Stingrays up 3-2 . As Jacksonville battled furiously to find that game-tying goal, the Stingrays would put the game away when Joe Devin scored an empty net goal.
After five divisional games to start the season, the Icemen travel to Canada to take on the Brampton Beast on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 11:00 a.m.
