Coming off a disappointing loss last night to Greenville, the Icemen (0-3-1-0) continue the 2017-18 season presented by Community First Credit Union against the South Carolina Stingrays (4-1-0-0) today at 3:05 p.m. in North Charleston, South Carolina.
Despite their fourth straight loss, the Icemen are getting continued production from several players. Rookie phenom Alexandre Goulet scored in his fourth-straight game Saturday and the first shorthanded goal in team history. Forward Elgin Pearce continued to make an impact as he tallied an assist against the Swamp Rabbits to extend his point streak to four games. Rookie Bobby MacIntyre became the second player in franchise history to have a multi-goal game, tallying two against Greenville along with an assist.
The Stingrays have been able to get help throughout the lineup as 17 different players have at least one point. Forward Andrew Cherniwchan leads the team in goals with four and Steven Whitney is atop the roster with six points. Icemen fans remember Cherniwchan after his two shorthanded goals against the Icemen two weeks ago gave the Stingrays the 3-2 victory. Goalie Jeff Jakaitis has been a reliable presence between the pipes for his club, posting a 2.76 GAA through four games.
Jacksonville will be playing in their first back-to-back game on Sunday against the Stingrays. With limited rest, the Icemen will need to stay out of the box and capitalize on the man advantage in order to pick up win No. 1 in franchise history. Catch all the action on ECHL.TV when the puck drops at 3:05 p.m.
