The Jacksonville Icemen's two-game winning streak ended Wednesday night as the Atlanta Gladiators won, 6-2.
Atlanta jumped out to an early lead just 52 seconds into the game when Phil Lane scored from the slot. However, with a chance to add to their lead on the power play, the Gladiators ran into trouble. Everett Clark and Jansen Harkins started a breakaway that led to Harkins beating Dan Vladar to tie the game. The shorthanded goal is Harkins' first in the ECHL. At 7:22 in the first, Joonas Lyttinen scored to give the Gladiators the lead once again. Then, Phil Lane scored on a breakaway for his second of the night and the Gladiators ended the first period ahead, 3-1.
In the second period, it was all Gladiators. Atlanta was able to score once again in the first minute of a period as Lindsay Sparks extended the Gladiators lead to three goals only 57 seconds in. Nearly seven minutes later, Taylor Stefishen put one home on the rebound. Less then a minute after Stefishen's goal, Phil Lane completed the hat trick and the Gladiators ended the second period up, 6-1.
The Icemen continued to find success on the power play as Jimmy Lodge scored on the man advantage in the third period. That goal marks the third straight game that Jacksonville has scored a power play goal.
The Icemen continue the 2017-18 season, presented by Community First Credit Union, on Friday, Jan. 5 and Saturday, Jan. 6 as the Solar Bears come to town for Military Appreciation Weekend. Click here to get your tickets today!
