The Jacksonville Icemen fell to the South Carolina Stingrays on Sunday afternoon by a score of a 3-1. Dajon Mingo provided the lone goal for Jacksonville, his first of the season.
In a scoreless first period, the Stingrays outshot the Icemen, 12-4. Despite the lack of shots, the Icemen were able to kill three penalties in the first period to keep the game deadlocked.
In the second period, Jacksonville would score first and the Icemen grabbed the 1-0 lead when Tanner Eberle found Dajon Mingo all alone for the one-timer from the slot. The goal is Mingo's first of the season and the Icemen had a 1-0 lead at the halfway point in the game. The Stingrays would respond over two minutes later when Joey Leach fired a wrist shot past Colton Phinney to tie the game. Shortly before the end of the second period, Paul Geiger scored on the power play with a slap shot from the point, and the Stingrays would end the second period with a 2-1 lead.
Jacksonville would get two power plays in the third period, but the Icemen would not be able to tie the game. Stephen Whitney put the game away with an empty-net goal under two minutes to play, and the Stingrays skated away with a 3-1 victory.
