The Allen Americans defeated the Jacksonville Icemen, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Arena. Scott Savage scored the lone Icemen goal on the power play in the third period.
Coming into this afternoon's game, Allen forward Casey Pierro-Zabotel led the league in assists with 40. However, it would be his goal scoring that got the Icemen's attention. Late in the first period, Colby McAuley skated into the offensive zone on a two-on-one breakaway and fired two shots on Austin Lotz. As Lotz attempted to get up for another save, Pierro-Zabotel poked the puck into the net for the Allen lead. Jacksonville was unable to convert on three power plays, but outshot the Americans, 15-3.
The Icemen were unable to respond in the second period, as they spent most of the time in the penalty box. Even though the Americans couldn't convert on the man advantages, they did find a way to extend their lead. Over halfway into the middle frame, a rebound went to the side of the net and Zach Pochiro was there to put it home before Lotz could recover.
Down by two in the third period, Jacksonville was determined to find a way back into the game. Shortly before the halfway mark in the final frame, Scott Savage sent a blast from the point past Brodeur for a power-play goal to make it a one-goal game. However, Allen would put the game away when Bryan Moore fired a wrist shot from the left circle past Lotz.
The Icemen hit the road to take on the Norfolk Admirals on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 7:00 p.m.
