'CHARACTER' RECURRING THEME FOR 2018-2019 ROSTER
Habits. Accountability. Structure. These words hung in big, bold lettersin the locker room of the Icemen last season. Perhaps this season, 'Character' will be added.Cody Fowlie marks the second player signed to the roster for the upcoming season, along with Cameron Critchlow. When asked about both players, Head Coach Jason Christie noted they were "great guys" who also happen to be great hockey players. "That's the foundation we want to build this team upon."Christie has a reputation for being a straight-forward coach and it's served him well as the winningest coach in ECHL history. "He likes to have a lot of fun and joke around with the guys, but when it comes to game time, he's really serious and expects a lot from us," said Cody Fowlie. All players we spoke with at the end of the inaugural season echoed Fowlie's sentiments. Captain Garet Hunt added, "He demands a lot, but at the same time he's fun to play for."There are no surprises with Christie; he sets expectations both on and off the ice, and those expectations will be met to stay in an Icemen sweater. "He's an honest coach and he's fair. He appreciates guys coming to work and being pros everyday," said Critchlow. "It's give-and-take with him and he respects you as long as you give everything you have."Practice good habits. Take accountability for your actions. Be structured. Have good character. Wise words not just in hockey, but in life.
