Icemen Drop Road Opener at Greenville

GREENVILLE, SC – Adam Rockman scored twice to help pace the Greenville Swamp Rabbits to a 6-1 victory over the Jacksonville Icemen at Bons Secours Wellness Arena Friday night.

BOX SCORE/SCORESHEET

The Swamp Rabbits scored first on the power just three minutes into the contest, Liam Pecararo snapped a shot from the left wing that slipped in the right corner of the net for the game’s opening tally.

Later in the first period, the Icemen received their first power play opportunity of the game but surrendered a shorthanded strike to Adam Rockman to propel Greenville to 2-0 lead at the first break.

In the second, the Swamp Rabbits extended their lead to 3-0 when Rockwood found a wide open Patrick Bajkov in the slow slot.  Bajkov one-timed a shot at close range past goaltender Jeremy Helvig.

The Icemen got on the board at 16:41 of the second after a turnover by a Greenville defender behind his own net. The puck popped to the middle of the slot and Alexis D’Aoust finished off the play by writing a shot past goaltender Ryan Bednard.

The goal sparked the Icemen, but only for a short time.  Greenville’s Cedric Lacroix quelled the Jacksonville momentum when he banked the puck off the skate of goaltender Jeremy Helvig with 14 seconds remaining in the middle frame to give the Swamp Rabbits a 4-1 lead.

Greenville controlled the tempo in the third and added two more tallies, including an empty-netter later to earn the 6-1 win.   Ryan Bednard was superb turning aside 27 of the 28 shots faced.

Jacksonville will travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana to take on the Komets next weekend on October 25 and 26.  Fans can catch the game on Mixlr/JaxIcemen or on ECHL.TV

The Icemen will return home on Wednesday, October 30 against Atlanta.   Fans can enjoy $2 select beer & wine.  There will also be a Halloween Costume contest and trick-or-treating for the kids in the concourse.  Flexible ticket packages and discounted group tickets remain available for future games.
