ORLANDO, FL – The Orlando Solar Bears scored four unanswered goals in the second period to pace past the Jacksonville Icemen by a score of 6-2 at the Amway Center Tuesday evening.
For the second consecutive game, the Icemen grabbed the game’s first tally. Maxime Fortier skated behind the Orland net and fed a pass to Chase Lang rushing toward the crease. Lang instantly flipped a shot past the glove of Solar Bears goaltender Spencer Martin. Lang’s second of the season gave the Icemen a 1-0 lead at the first break.
Despite the fast start by Jacksonville, the second period belonged to Orlando. It took just 20-seconds for the Solar Bears to score the first of their four goals in the second period. Jimmy Huntington scored that first tally finishing off an odd-man rush with a wrist shot that beat goaltender Griffen Outhouse.
Just over a minute later, Orlando claimed the lead on a Jake Jackson Tally at 1:27 of the period. The Solar Bears would build on their lead with additional tallies from Jake Marchment and Ivan Kosorenkov to take a 4-1 edge into the second intermission.
Early in the third, Jacksonville attempted a comeback bid. Alexis D’Aoust tipped and redirected a Hayden Shaw shot into to pull the Icemen within two. However, a pair of power strikes from Alexey Lipanov would seal the game for Orlando by a 6-2 count.
Orlando goaltender Spencer Martin earned the win making 35 saves in the contest.
The Icemen return home on Wednesday to battle the Atlanta Gladiators at 7:00 p.m.
