JACKSONVILLE, FL – Emerson Clark scored twice to help pace the Jacksonville Icemen to an impressive 4-2 victory over the Greenville Swamp Rabbits at Veterans Memorial Arena Wednesday night. The Icemen outshot Greenville 40-22 in the contest.
Jacksonville scored first just 4:41 into the opening frame. Defenseman Charles-David Beaudoin intercepted a pass at center ice and skated into the Greenville zone on the right wing. Beaudoin steered a pass to the low slot to Emerson Clark who tapped a shot through the open five-hole of goaltender Ryan Bednard for the goal. Clark’s third of the season would hold through the first intermission.
Brendan Warren extended the lead to 2-0 halfway through the second period. Following an Icemen shot that pinged off the post, the rebound bounced to Warren who then floated a shot into the Grenville net past an outstretched Bednard.
The Swamp Rabbits got on the board just 32 seconds later when Michael Pelech picked up a rebound and tapped it into the net past a diving Michael McNiven to pull Greenville within one 2-1.
Five minutes later, the Icemen reclaimed a two-goal edge on the power play. John Albert gathered a loose puck in the slot and hurled a shot toward the net. The puck hit off the leg of Everett Clark and redirected into the net for the goal to give Jacksonville a two-goal edge at the second intermission.
The Swamp Rabbits made it interesting with a goal by Mason Baptista at 10:43 of the third period, but Emerson Clark added an empty-net tally with a minute remaining to secure the 4-2 victory for the Icemen.
The Icemen will now travel to Norfolk, Virginia for a two-game set with the Admirals on Friday and Saturday. Game time for both games is slated for 7:35 p.m. Fans can catch all game broadcasts at www.mixlr.com/jaxicemen or watch the game online at ECHL.TV
