Fucale Shines For Solar Bears in 3-0 Defeat of Icemen
After a scoreless first, Orlando netted the game’s first goal following a dazzling kick save by newcomer Michael McNiven. McNiven dropped into the splits position to kick aside a Cody Donaghey shot from the point. The puck bounced to an Icemen defenseman to the left of the crease and Alexey Lipanov poked at the puck in an effort to knock it away. However, Lipanov’s poke ended up shuffle-boarding the puck into the net behind the outstretched goaltender for the tally.
The Orlando goal ended a shutout sequence of nearly 154-minutes by McNiven dating back to October 30. McNiven had posted back-to-back shutouts with Adirondack prior to his assignment to Jacksonville.
Later in the second period, Hunter Fejes broke down the left-wing side and flexed a shot over the shoulder of McNiven for the second shorthanded strike of the game as Orlando would take a 2-0 edge into the second break.
Jacksonville put up a fight in the third period and generated several scoring chances, but Fucale continued to shut the door on the Icemen. Orlando later added a shorthanded empty-net tally to secure the 3-0 victory.
