GREENVILLE, SC – Goaltender Ryan Bednard turned aside 25 of 26 shots to help the Greenville Swamp Rabbits at the Bons Secours Wellness Arena Thursday evening.
For the second consecutive night the Icemen would score first, taking advantage of their first power play opportunity of the night. Rookie forward Bobby Lynch collected a pass in stride and carried it quickly into the Greenville end. Lynch delivered a shot from the left win circle that clipped off the pads of goaltender Ryan Bednard and trickled across the line. Lynch’s second goal of the season was the only goal registered in the opening period.
Late in the second period, Greenville evened the score with a power play strike of their own. Veteran forward Nathan Perkovich snapped a give-in-go pass in the slot that clipped underneath the crossbar and then into the net for the tying tally.
Greenville grabbed the lead halfway through the third when Cedric Lacroix attempted a wraparound shot that ended up sliding across the crease to teammate Johno May. May knocked in the loose puck behind goaltender Michael McNiven to the Swamp Rabbits in front 2-1.
Jacksonville threw 12 shots at the Greenville net in third period, but Bednard would shut the door on then all to preserve the 2-1 win for Greenville.
