JACKSONVILLE, FL – The Jacksonville Icemen announced Wednesday that the Montreal Canadiens (NHL) have reassigned goaltender Michael McNiven to the Icemen. In addition, the Carolina Hurricanes (NHL) have reassigned goaltender Jeremy Helvig to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL)
McNiven, 22, joins the Icemen after posting a 3-1-0 record with two shutouts, a 1.75 goals-against-average and a 0.941 save percentage with Adirondack this season. McNiven is currently riding a 127-minute shutout sequence following back-to-back shutouts in his most recent outings with the Thunder.
The 6-1, 198-pound netminder has spent the past two seasons with the American Hockey League’s Laval Rocket where he totaled a 17-31-4 record with two shutouts, a 3.01 goals-against-average and a 0.892 save percentage. The Winnipeg, MN native has also made appearances with the ECHL’s Brampton Beast. McNiven is currently under an NHL contract with Montreal. The Icemen open up a three-game homestand this week beginning on Thursday (Nov .14) against the Atlanta Gladiators.
