Icemen Edge Everblades in Overtime Shootout Thriller

JACKSONVILLE, FL – Brendan Warren’s goal in the sixth-round of the overtime shootout lifted the Jacksonville Icemen to an exciting 3-2 win over the Florida Everblades at Veterans Memorial Arena Wednesday night.  Jacksonville forward Everett Clark tied the game with 1:17 remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime.  The Icemen extend their points streak to four games (3-0-1-0) and have collected seven of a possible eight points during this stretch.

It took just 1:08 into the game for the Icemen to get on the board.  Newcomer Craig Martin carried the puck to the left wing circle and snapped a shot into the high corner of the net past Florida goaltender Cam Johnson to give Jacksonville the early 1-0 lead.

Florida countered with four minutes remaining in the opening frame when Ben Masella’s point shot clipped past a screened Adam Carlson in goal to tie the game at one.

Following a scoreless second period, Florida grabbed the lead in the contest just three minutes into the third period.  While in the midst of a delayed penalty on Jacksonville, Florida’s Blake Winiecki scooped up the puck in the slot and slid a shot low past Carlson to garner a 2-1 lead for his team.

The Icemen pressed in the final four minutes of regulation and their efforts finally paid off with 1:17 remaining in regulation.  Dajon Mingo won a battle on the back dasher and carried the puck behind the net.  Mingo fed a pass across the low slot to a wide-open Everett Clark who buried the puck into the net past relief goaltender Ken Appleby for the tying tally to eventually force overtime.

Both teams generated excellent scoring chances in the extra session, but neither could net the game-winner to send the game to the shootout.   Just as they did in regulation and overtime, the two teams exchanged chances and goals in the shootout.  Icemen rookie Brendan Warren scored the go-ahead marker in the sixth-round of the shootout to give his team lead.  Florida’s Logan Roe attempted keep the game alive with a deke to backhand move, but Adam Carlson turned aside the shot to preserve the exciting 3-2 shootout victory for the Icemen.  The Icemen will now travel to Orlando for a Thursday evening affair with the Solar Bears at the Amway Center.  Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.Fans can catch all game broadcasts at www.mixlr.com/jaxicemen or watch the game online at ECHL.TV
