JACKSONVILLE, FL – The Jacksonville Icemen, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres and the AHL’s Rochester Americans announced today that Brandon Mashinter will return for a third season as assistant coach.
Mashinter, 35, began his coaching career with the Icemen during the 2021-22 season. He helped guide the Icemen to a club-record 44 wins last season.
“From skill development to special teams, Brandon has been an integral part of our team the last two seasons,” said Icemen Head Coach Nick Luukko. “His knowledge for the game is uncanny, and I look forward to working with him for another season.” Prior to coaching, Mashinter compiled an impressive playing career at a high-level from 2009-2021. Mashinter competed in 64 NHL contests in stints with the San Jose Sharks, New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks. The Newmarket, Ontario resident compiled 261 points in 535 American Hockey League (AHL) games split between the Worcester Sharks, Hartford Wolfpack, Rockford Ice Hogs and San Jose Barracuda. He also played two seasons in Germany with ERC Ingolstadt (DEL).
Mashinter also won an Ontario Hockey League championship with the Kitchener Rangers in 2008. The Icemen open the 2023-24 season at home on October 21st against the Florida Everblades.
