JACKSONVILLE, FL – The Jacksonville Icemen, proud ECHL Affiliate of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild and the AHL’s Iowa Wild, announced today that the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Joey Berkopec of the SPHL’s Evansville Thunderbolts.
Berkopec, 27, is a two-time President’s Cup Champion with the Evansville Thunderbolts netting 23 points (4 goals, 19 assists) in 58 SPHL games last year. Berkopec was a key lynchpin of Evansville’s championship blue line earning a +8 rating last season along with a +10 plus-minus in the playoffs. A 6-1, 190 lb. native of Oakville, Ontario, Berkopec previously skated for the Macon Mayhem (SPHL) following a three-year stint at Utica University (NCAA-Division III). This is Berkopec’s first ever call-up to the ECHL ranks.
The Icemen are also getting back the services of defenseman Reilly Webb, who was recalled to the Iowa Wild earlier this week. Webb has seen action in both of Jacksonville’s games this year.
The Jacksonville Icemen's 10th Anniversary season is underway! Full and Partial Ticket plans are available by calling 904-602-7825, or by visiting www.jacksonvilleicemen.com.
