August 31, 2017 - Jacksonville, FL - The Jacksonville Icemen have announced the signing of veteran forward, Wacey Rabbit. The Ontario native is a member of the Kainai Nation and was a fth round pick for the Boston Bruins. He will join the Icemen for their inaugural season opener on October 14 at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.
“Wacey has played ve seasons in the American Hockey League and provides us with leadership depth,” explained Icemen VP of Hockey Operations & Head Coach, Jason Christie. “He has won before and we’re excited for him to be a top end player for the Icemen.”
Rabbit, 30, has played in 309 AHL games with 36 goals, 59 assists (95 points) and 254 penalty minutes for Providence, Milwaukee and San Antonio. For the previous ve seasons, Wacey played international hockey including four seasons with the Nippon Paper Cranes. Last year, he played for the Alps Hockey League’s Val Pusteria Wolves in Bruneck, Italy where he led the team to a 32-6-0-1 season.
The new Icemen forward started his pro hockey career during the 2006-07 season with the Providence Bruins. Just two seasons later, Rabbit played his best AHL season with a 43-29-2-6 record, making the Bruins one of the top teams in the league. Local hockey fans may nd it interesting to know that while playing for Providence, Rabbit’s assistant coach was former Jacksonville Lizard Kings and current Boston Bruins coach, Bruce Cassidy. During his AHL career, Rabbit never played for a losing team. His combined AHL record includes 220 wins, 137 losses and 35 shootout losses.
