After outplaying the Monarchs on Saturday night, it was Manchester who dominated Sunday afternoon. The Icemen suffered their worst loss of the 2017-18 season, presented by Community First Credit Union, with a 10-4 defeat.
Once again, Bobby MacIntyre got the scoring started for the Icemen as Brendan Collier found him all alone from the right circle just 1:28 into the game. Minutes later, Spencer Watson fired the puck from the right boards and beat Colton Phinney to tie the game. Late in the period, Jordan LaVallee-Smotherman connected on a breakaway and put the puck on the top shelf past Phinney. The Monarchs finished the first period ahead, 2-1.
In the second period, Francois Beauchemin scored just 31 seconds to extend the Monarchs lead to 3-1. Bobby MacIntyre responded again minutes later to cut the deficit to one. However, it was all Manchester the rest of the game. The Monarchs would score five straight goals and finish the second period with a dominating 8-2 lead.
Both teams would collect a pair of goals in the third period, including goals by Dajon Mingo and Tanner Eberle.
The Icemen return home for a seven-game homestand, starting on Wednesday, Jan. 24 as they take on the South Carolina Stingrays.
