Icemen Add Forward Roman Uchyn & Goaltender Jeff Smith

JACKSONVILLE, FL – The Jacksonville Icemen, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets and AHL’s Manitoba Moose announced Thursday that the team has agreed to terms with forward Roman Uchyn.  In addition, the Icemen have also added goaltender Jeff Smith to an amateur tryout (ATO).      

Uchyn, 24, joins the Icemen after recording 33 points (15g, 18a) in 31 during his senior season at St. Norbert College (NCHA).  The 6-2, 190-pound forward totaled 81 points in (48g, 43a) in 118 collegiate games at St. Norbert.  The Chicago, Illinois native compiled 56 points in 90 NAHL games with Corpus Christi Ice Rays, Coulee Region Chill and the Lone Star Brahmas. Uchyn (pronounced YOU-chin) also collected 16 points in 54 games with the USHL’s Des Moines Buccaneers (2012-2014). 

Smith, 23, joins the Icemen after wrapping up his senior season with top ranked St. Cloud State University.  The 6-2, 205-pound netminder a 7-1-1 record, with a 2.01 goal-against average and a 0.923 save percentage in 19 appearances this season.   During his three seasons at St. Cloud, the Maple Ridge, BC native accumulated a 28-16-5 record, with a 2.45 goals-against average, a 0.913 save percentage with three shutouts from 2016-2019.
