After a three-game homestand to begin the 2017-18 season, presented by Community First Credit Union, the Jacksonville Icemen (0-2-1-0) travel to South Carolina to take on the Greenville Swamp Rabbits (4-3-1-0) at Bon Secours Wellness Arena on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 7:00 p.m. to start a five-game road trip.
This is the fourth straight divisional game for the Icemen, who are still looking for that historic first-ever franchise victory in the ECHL. On the road, a quick start will be key for Jacksonville. The Icemen have done an excellent job of doing that at home, striking first in all three games at Veterans Memorial Arena.
Greenville finished last season as the second seed in the South division, losing in the first round to eventual Kelly Cup Finals runner-up, South Carolina Stingrays. The Swamp Rabbits had eight players return from the previous season, including goalie Brandon Halverson. The 21-year-old has struggled early on, posting a 5.31 GAA in just five games. Additionally, Greenville has also used Ty Rimmer in net five times this season. He most recently picked up the win for his team after limiting South Carolina to two goals on Friday night.
In a wild 11-goal thriller last week against Atlanta, the Icemen's penalty kill finally surrendered a goal. However, at 93.8%, Jacksonville has the best penalty kill in the league. A strong effort shorthanded will be vital for success Saturday night as the Swamp Rabbits boast the second-best power play, scoring 11 times in just eight games. Despite finding success with the man advantage, Greenville has struggled on the penalty kill, taking 44 penalties and allowing 12 goals. Now would be a great time for the Icemen to find their rhythm with the man advantage, as the team hasn't scored on the power play since the first-ever goal in franchise history against the Orlando Solar Bears by Scott Savage.
