JACKSONVILLE, FL - Nick Saracino scored just 23-seconds into overtime to lift the Jacksonvile Icemen to a 3-2 victory over the South Carolina Stingrays Friday night at Veterans Memorial Arena.
Jacksonville and South Carolina had a fast-paced and entertaining first period. There was a lot of back and forth play which led to some exciting moments in the opening frame. Aside from the stellar play by goaltender Kyle Keyser (JAX) and Sean Bonar (SC) the game remained scoreless heading into the first intermission.
The second period was another fast-paced, entertaining 20 minutes. The score after two was 1-1 following a goal by South Carolina's Cole Ully who scored off of a turnover by Jacksonville. Momenta later, Ara Nazarian scored for the Icemen after numerous scoring opportunities in front of the South Carolina net.
Icemen goaltender Kyle Keyser made several quality saves in the final stanza of regulation . However, Cole Ully would strike again, this time at the tail end of their power play to make it 2-1 South Carolina lead halfway through the third period. Shortly after, Icemen defenseman Jacob Cederholm unleashed a powerful one-timer which was tipped by forward Craig Martin to once again tie the game up at two a piece.
Overtime lasted all of 23 seconds as Stingrays defenseman Blake Hillman took a penalty at the end of regulation which put the Icemen on the power play to open the extra session. After a good passing play by the Icemen, forward Nick Saracino finished off a one-timer that sealed the 3-2 victory.
