Icemen Power Past Ghost Pirates in Preseason Finale

JACKSONVILLE, FL – Christopher Brown scored twice, while Luke Martin scored a power play goal to help guide the Jacksonville Icemen to a 4-3 victory over the Savannah Ghost Pirates Saturday evening at the Community First Igloo.

Late in the first period, the Icemen received their first power play opportunity of the game and was able to convert.  Christopher Brown delivered a circle-to-circle pass to Luke Martin who hammered the puck on a one-timer into the net to give Jacksonville a 1-0 edge after the first period.

The second period started with some fireworks as a heavy wight fight took place between Savannah’s Darian Skeoch and Jacksonville’s Travis Howe.   Feeding off the energy of the tilt, the Icemen grabbed a 2-0 edge when Christopher Brown received a pass in the slot and snapped a shot past Savannah goaltender Darion Hanon.

Savannah kept it close late in the second period on a tally by Marshall Moise to pull the Ghost Pirates within one at the close of the second period.

Things opened up in the third, as the Ghost Pirates evened the score on a Connor Corcoran tally on the power play.

Less than four minutes later, the Icemen re-claimed the lead  at 3-2 on another tally from Brown, this time on the power play.

Just 11 seconds later, Bo Hanson delivered a pass down the ice to Sam Sternschein who took off on the breakaway and backhanded the puck high into to the net past Savannah netminder Chase Perry to make it a 4-2 game.

The Ghost Pirates continued to haunt the Icemen until the end, as they pulled the goaltender to allow for the extra attacker and Westin Michaud found the back of the net from the backside of the crease to make it a 4-3 affair.

Despite the comeback bid, the Ghost Pirates could not net the equalizer as the Icemen prevailed 4-3.   Jacksonville outshot Savannah 22-13 and scored three goals on the power play.

The Icemen now get set for their home opener on Saturday, October 22 against the Orlando Solar Bears.  A limited number of tickets for the game remains.  Visit www.ticketmaster.com to purchase your tickets today!
